LaFe is a group of Latinx students looking to understand more about faith in Jesus and how that intersects with our culture.

We value creating familia for students that are away from home. We do that through food, friendship and following Jesus.

We have weekly Bible studies. Together we study scripture inductively, so rather than someone telling you what it all means we ask questions and learn what the Bible is saying communally. These Bible studies are meant to help:
students with no Biblical understanding ask questions and learn about Jesus for themselves as adults and
students who come from a Christian (both Protestant and Catholic) background grow in their faith in community.

We also always try to apply the things we learn in scripture to our lives in order to love and serve the Latino community and others on campus. Often we will also ask how what we’re learning relates to what the Latinx community is facing in our country, in AZ, on campus, in our families, or as individuals. Our Bible studies are a space we can be truly authentic with one another and become each other's family away from home.

Under normal circumstances we cook and eat food together all the time. We have an annual Carne Asada cookout. We’ve had cooking parties where we learn to make homemade tortillas and tamales together. Food and hospitality is very important to us.

Having fun together is another high value of ours. We love to play volleyball, soccer and other sports together. We play loteria and board games together. And we’d normally have fun events to meet new people like bonfires, lip sync battles, and scavenger hunts.

Because of COVID-19 a lot of what we normally would do is changing. We’re looking for new and creative ways to still connect together through food and fun while still being safe. These values of ours are still very important and we’ll do everything we can to bring familia to NAU.
