Hermanas United for Change was founded for the purpose of empowering the women of the Latinx community here at NAU to strive for academic and personal excellence and to use their skills and knowledge to give back to the Flagstaff community. At Hermanas, we are constantly evolving and revising our approaches to different projects and issues within the Latinx community and fortifying our friendships with one another and relations with community partners. Any meeting or event that is hosted by Hermanas is a safe and accepting space, and is open to anyone and everyone that is interested!
Our campus and community involvement is widespread; we have hosted and participated in a number of events both on and off campus. We host weekly meetings where members can gather to participate in topic-specific discussions and formulate plans for events and fundraisers. On campus, we are best known for our themed dances throughout the year and appearances at events hosted by other organizations. Around Flagstaff, Hermanas has annually tabled at the 'Celebraciones de la Gente' Day of the Dead event and hosted our very own 'Day of the Dead' festivities at W.F. Killip Elementary School; both events are opportunities for us to fundraise by selling sugar skulls and flower headbands, as well as be involved with the community of Flagstaff.
